before the dusk, in darkness, even, the steady, regular
bombardment that never ceased all through the days and nights
would concentrate into great tumult of drum-fire, and
presently waves of --english or or , australians or
canadians--would be on them and over them, rummaging down
into the dugouts with and bayonets, gathering up prisoners,
